Arenile is released with available source code (source available) under the Business Source License 1.1 (BSL
1.1, SPDX identifier BUSL-1.1), with Coste360 SRL as licensor.
Allowed, free of charge
Running Arenile in production to manage the beach establishments, lidos, beach clubs, equipped beaches and
open-air pools you own or operate directly (including through controlled companies), with the bar, restaurant and
rentals on the same site, including the booking page and the widget for your customers. A hotel may use it for
the beach establishment it operates directly. Reading, modifying, testing the code and contributing.
A commercial license is required
Offering Arenile, or a modified version, to third parties for a fee or other commercial advantage: hosting, managed
service or SaaS, installation, configuration, customisation, maintenance, support, resale, or including it in a
product or service for third parties that substitutes for Arenile or provides similar functionality (management
or booking software for beach establishments). This also applies to consortia and associations that do not
control their member establishments. Write to info@coste360.it.
Embedding the widget or linking the booking page in a website or app, for example as the agency building the
lido’s website, as long as you do not install, host, configure, customise, maintain or support Arenile.
The operator’s employees installing and running Arenile on the operator’s behalf.
Helping an operator free of charge, unless that help is part of, or promotes, a paid offering relating to
Arenile or to the management, booking or website of the establishment.
Renting a server on which the operator installs Arenile themselves, including through a generic or one-click
installation template, as long as the provider does not run Arenile for them and does not market an offering
dedicated to Arenile.
Each version of Arenile automatically switches to the GNU AGPL-3.0-or-later license three years after its first
public release (the BSL Change Date). Today’s code will therefore be available under the AGPL in three years,
version by version.
The goal is that Arenile stays free for operators and that nobody can take it and resell it as a paid service to
the very establishments it is given to for free. The BSL protects this use while keeping the code readable, modifiable
and open to contributions. The alternatives considered and the reasons are in the repository’s ADR 0007.
The managed hosting Arenile Pro is a separate, future commercial product of Coste360: the core stays complete and
free for those who run their own establishments, and no feature needed to run a beach is reserved to the commercial
product.
Contributions require signing the CLA (see Contributing). New dependencies must have
a license compatible with both the BSL 1.1 and the AGPL-3.0 (for example MIT, BSD, Apache-2.0, ISC).
The Arenile name and logo are trademarks of Coste360 SRL: forks, including of versions converted to AGPL-3.0, must
use a different name and logo. Details in TRADEMARK.md. The map kit illustrations are original works by Coste360
(provenance in assets/map-kits).
